Smyrna Precast Concrete Manhole Repair

Epoxytec highlights a project from July 2022 in Smyrna, Tennessee, where Commercial Painting, Inc., an Epoxytec certified applicator, repaired a concrete precast manhole.

The project involved surface preparation in accordance with SSPC-SP13/NACE No. 6 standards, followed by the application of Epoxytec Series 454 CPP Trowel-Liner. Approximately 30 gallons were applied at 125 mils thickness over 570 square feet using a trowel and backrolling technique. This method created a protective layer against harsh underground conditions, addressing inflow and infiltration (I&I) issues, including intermittent wastewater immersion and fumes.

Epoxytec coordinated with Commercial Painting and Tnemec Sales Representative Justin Taute from Nexgen to meet project requirements efficiently.

Epoxytec Series 454 CPP Trowel-Liner is a 100% solids epoxy coating tailored for wastewater infrastructure. It resists sewer gases, and has high compressive and tensile strengths. The product’s low permeability and high-build properties allow thick single-coat applications, making it effective for concrete rehabilitation in sewer environments.

The application of Epoxytec Series 454 CPP Trowel-Liner successfully addressed urgent repair needs and reduced I&I in the manhole system. This protective coating enhances the sewer system’s integrity, reducing environmental contamination risks. The project with Commercial Painting, Inc. demonstrates the effectiveness of preventive measures in maintaining critical infrastructure.
