Brick Sanitary Sewer Rehabilitation Using Epoxytec’s Mortartec Ceramico
Located in the town of Orcutt, California, this brick sanitary sewer manhole was in need of rehabilitation due to the partially deteriorated brick caused by exposure to hydrogen sulfide. Michael MacEachern of Mainline Utility, an Epoxytec certified contractor, recommended the use of Epoxytec’s Mortartec Ceramico.
Mortartec Ceramico is a highly advanced epoxy blend incorporating epoxide technology. It is used for protection against sulfuric acid and hydrogen sulfide.
It protects against inflow and infiltration (I&I) and reduces hydrostatic MVT and outgassing.
In addition to exhibiting excellent acid resistance and adhesive properties, it is also easy to apply. It is self-priming and has same a one-day recoat capability.
For Orcutt’s project, surface preparation was a simple water blast of 3-5k psi. The Mortartec Ceramico was then applied by trowel to the 4’ by 12.5’ manhole. The result was a smooth mortar application with protective qualities that left this manhole sealed and protected. The entire rehabilitation was completed in a timely manner with minimal down-time, saving the city money and time.
