What is a Structural Epoxy Liner?

A structural epoxy coating is an ultra-high build, reinforced “self-supporting” film designed at specified thicknesses (125 mils min.) to hold back low-pressure forces, such as inflow and infiltration (I&I) while protecting from corrosive hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) as an internal lining system. This is accomplished with microfiber reinforced polymerization (FRP) delivering high strength applied and bonded lining.  Cured for hardened durability – thick strength performance lining.

The uniqueness of a structural epoxy coating is its ability to hold back a variety of conditions in underground, below-grade environments that would otherwise adversely affect “traditional” coatings.  A structural epoxy coating is often specified as a bonded system. However, when applied at its minimum design thickness, should areas inadvertently become unbonded, the film remains  self-supporting because of its high mechanical strength. This free film can then hold back low-pressure forces of I&I, and hydrostatic head pressure.

A structural epoxy coating can also serve as a candidate for certain design criteria where other forces beyond I&I may be present, such as internal pressure or earth loading.  In these cases, a certified and licensed engineer would perform thickness calculations.
